2025/11/14

On October 23rd, the 2025 China (Shanghai) International Violin Culture Forum & PHOENIX Violin Expert Appraisal Meeting successfully concluded at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

Hosted by INNEO International Musical Instruments Group, this event was a grand industry gathering integrating technical discussion, cultural exchange, and product appraisal, bringing together over 300 top experts from the fields of violin making, performance, and education worldwide.

East-West Dialogue:

Exploring the Path of Inheritance and Innovation in Violin Craftsmanship

At the opening ceremony, Zhu Li, Chairwoman of INNEO International Musical Instruments Group, stated in her speech that promoting China's transition from a "major violin manufacturing country" to a "strong brand nation" is the shared mission of industry peers. She explained that the development path of the PHOENIX brand is based on craftsmanship as its foundation, technology as its wings, and culture as its soul, exploring a path for a Chinese national violin brand.

Subsequently, guests including Sun Ruiyong, Chairman of China Musical Instrument Association; Zhou Xiaoyan, Vice President of China Association of International Investment Promotion; Wan Lijun, Resident Vice President of China Association for the Promotion of Arts Education; and Li Xiaolei, Vice Chairman of China Culture Administration Association, shared insights from perspectives such as industry trends, international exchange, and arts education. They collectively affirmed the role of violin art as a bridge in promoting cultural exchange between China and other countries.

The international character of this forum was particularly strong. The classical violin-making traditions presented by Italian master luthier and Chairman of the International Violin Making Association (ELA), Simone Morassi, engaged in a profound dialogue with the Chinese violin-making wisdom represented by Hua Tianreng, Vice President of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Zheng Quan, a "National Craftsmanship Master". Chinese and foreign performers such as Lin Chaoyang, Stefan Besan, and Yao Liang, along with industry experts in making, teaching, and research like Zhang An and Xue Peng, delivered wonderful presentations. From multiple perspectives including performance practice, making techniques, and instrument science, they collectively outlined the diverse landscape and future prospects of China's violin art ecosystem.

Following the appraisal, Mr. Zhang Jinchun, a renowned violist and former Head of the China National Opera House Symphony Orchestra, officially announced the appraisal opinion on behalf of the jury. The jury unanimously concluded that PHOENIX violins are "meticulously selected in materials, superior in craftsmanship, comfortable in handling, and excellent in sound quality," and can be regarded as "an outstanding representative of Chinese violin brands." This collective recognition from internationally authoritative experts marks a solid step forward for Chinese violin manufacturing on its path towards standardization, high-end development, and internationalization.
